It's October, so time to put away all the Summer tees and get out our sweaters and boots!! Here are some of my (mostly very recent) purchases that I've been extremely happy with!

Above wearing my extremely SOFT, cozy, amazing sweater from Barefoot Dreams. Lots of options at Nordstrom - (including socks!!!) also a few options currently marked down at Nordstrom Rack (limited sizes in the cardigans at the time I'm posting, but they have robes too!!!) I'm usually a S but went with a M in in the Cozychic style because it runs a little tight in the arms. M is absolutely perfect, and it washes well too. Also shown - Hunter boots (often marked down in various colors here.) Dark wash Levi's pull on jeans and a white BP tee.

Speaking of Barefoot Dreams, they make these incredible, soft, beautiful blankets too!!! Get them at Nordstrom or Nordstrom Rack when in stock. These would make a perfect holiday gift. Everyone fights over this one at my house so I just ordered another.

I just got this Naketano jacket - it's so well-made (nice detailing, flowered lining and little touches, the inside of the hood is super soft.) As of the time I'm writing this, this exact style of jacket is sold out, but there are over 1,000 other Naketano items on Amazon. Note that the hoodies run really small so size up TWO sizes on those - but I find the jackets are pretty true to size. I'm wearing my normal size, small, in the pic above. Also note.. this is a German brand and some of the names are a bit, er... obscene. You'll see what I mean if you look at enough of them.

Shown here, Athleta tank (love these, they are nice and long for us tall people!), Oalka leggings (similar to Lululemon but way less expensive!) and Brooks sneakers, which you can often score a great deal on at the Rack.

Best inexpensive jeans ever!!! You can find the  lighter wash of these Levi's here (click 'more' in the listing to see all sizes available) and both the  lighter or darker wash here. However, they are often out of stock or backordered due to their popularity. Very comfy, look great, and there is no hardware (snaps, zippers) to dig into your waist. They have a soft, thick waistband too.

The  Frye boots I'm wearing are 15 years old!!! They last forever with a trip to the cobbler every year or two.

Get the Urban Decay Naked eyeshadow palette  here or  here or this  other set here - all on sale! Goes on easily, stays on ALL. DAY. Gorgeous colors for Fall!! I have several of these and cannot get enough of them! It's hard to see scale from the photo, but these are quite large.

The perfect shoes for Spring, Summer and into Fall  Converse Shorelines. They're  on sale today here! I have two colors so far and I feel like I need to get  red ones too!

Outfit of the Day - Favorite Thermal Top & Skinny Jeans

I love this Free People thermal top so much, I just ordered a couple more colors!!! I'm wearing a small and I'm 5'8" - it runs quite big so if you're shorter, you may want to size down. It also runs long in the arms - which I LOVE. You can wear it with or without the thumbholes (see more pics below.) The top works on a variety of body types (it's meant to be oversized and it's long, especially in the back, so you can wear with skinnies or leggings.)

Jeans are Kut from Kloth and are here and here in different washes. They run a little bit big compared to other jeans - I'm wearing size 2.

Shoes are by Under Armour. They run true to size, and I found the band was tight at the ankle when they first arrived - but don't worry, they stretch out and mine are now super comfy. Check the different colors as they vary in price.

Outfit of the Day - Black Dress, Patterned Stockings, Sock Booties

I wore this outfit out to dinner on my birthday. I thought it looked great AND I was totally comfortable (you can eat in this dress while not feeling squished, it is nice and soft and has a fitted waist but not a tight waist at all.) By Lark and Ro, very budget friendly and it's available in black or purple. Some reviews say they thought it runs big. I think it runs just slightly big. I'm wearing a small here and I'd say it fits comparably to a generous 4 or small 6. Free returns if you get the size wrong. The dress has a nice lining and it's thick material, so it's extremely versatile and can be worn almost year round (might get too hot in the Summer though since it is lined.) Would be great if you work in an office and then want to turn around and go out immediately after work.

Here's a close up of the fabric. You can see it is princess cut so it nips in at the waist and has piping along the curves, which is very flattering.

There are lots of options for patterned stockings out there, depending on what pattern you want. Amazon has their own house brand. More similar to what I'm wearing here and here. Also these ones seem like a fantastic deal.

I love the sock booties trend and there are LOTS of options out there in every price range. Can you guess which are the most and least expensive here? I'll give you a hint, the most and least expensive look almost identical. Links below the pic.

1. Ziginy Pointed Toe Bootie
2. Stuart Weitzman Glove Suede boot (these are an absolute steal at post time, but limited sizes)
3. Splendid Rosinda Knit Bootie
4. Stuart Weitzman Cling Stretch Bootie
5. Chinese Laundry Craze Bootie
6. Mossimo Supply Sock Bootie

I love the sock bootie look - I find it very difficult to find closed toe black heels that I love, and I don't always have a perfect pedicure to go with open toe styles.

Outfit of the Day - Three-in-one down parka

I already had this fantastic Patagonia Tres 3-in-1 parka in another color but I couldn't resist this grey/pink combo!!!! I've been waiting for a price drop for a while now on this new color and it's here.

First of all, I love this coat because it's warm. Made with poly outer and "600 fill-power traceable down" inside. The hood is removable and good for really cold days.

Second, I love it because it's stylish looking and doesn't make you look like a blob. It is fitted for a nice silhouette and can be worn for anything from a professional setting to sledding with the kids (I have Patagonia snow pants for that too, and they are fantastic!) See pic of the 3-in-1 Tres zipped and snapped up below.

Third - it's actually three coats in one. It can be worn as just the outer layer, for a rain coat (but I don't wear mine that way normally, as I already have a Boden rain coat). It can be worn with both the outer and down layers, for maximum warmth when it's wet and cold out. Or it can be worn as just the inner down parka layer when it's dry out - pretty pink!!! The down layer easily zips in and out of the grey outer layer, and snaps at the wrists.

As far as sizing goes, I found the Tres is true to size - I'm wearing a small in the pics, I'm 5'8" and usually around a size 4.

If you want to spend less, Patagonia makes other parka styles, including the Vosque - which has a really similar cut, and 3-in-1 style, but with poly fill instead of down.

Shown in these pics with a Boden tunic (past season), Seven for All Mankind jeans, and these Ugg boots in the chestnut color.

Outfit of the Day: Oversized Sweater, Faux Leather Leggings, Suede Ankle Boots.

This sweater is super warm, soft and comfy. Works well with leggings too, even for tall people. Now back in stock!!! I'm wearing a small and I'd say it runs on the big side. I'm 5'8" for reference.

Shown with Spanx faux leather leggings. They also come in "Moto" style which I might have to grab too! And in plus sizes. You probably want to size up in these. I'm normally a small in leggings, but I tried both small and medium in the Spanx and medium were much more comfortable (while still holding everything in place.)

Boots are here in several colors. This style has been sold out of a lot of sizes lately, but there are several extremely similar styles with varying heel heights. These are great for Spring and go with almost anything!!!

Cool Product Pick - The Gym1 Indoor Playground (formerly "Gorilla Gym")

Tuesday, January 2, 2018

This was my kids' favorite Christmas present this year by far! And... they have been fighting over it since. The basic version of the Gym1 Indoor Playground comes with the pull-up bar, swing, rings and rope ladder. The deluxe version comes with all that AND trapeze bar and climbing rope attachments. So far I've found that my kids have mainly used the basic attachments, but I'd like to try a cocoon attachment also (each of the two straps attaches to one of the carabiner hooks on the gym unit). For little kids, you can attach a standard baby swing to the apparatus and that works just as well!

(For Chase's outfit from the pic above, the shirt is here, socks and pants are also from Boden. All incredible quality per Boden's usual standards!! This is one of my favorite shirts of his, nice thick cotton!)

Assembly, for us, took about an hour. My very helpful dad came over, studied the instructions, put it together and hung it up. Once assembled, it only takes a minute or two to hang the Gym1 in a doorway or take it down - and it takes only seconds to change which attachment goes onto the bar. For help with assembly, once you get your Gym1 set, check youtube for some helpful videos!

It doesn't matter how wide your trim is on either side of the door - that is irrelevant. What matters is that you have a molding OVER the door on one side, and that you have clearance in front of and behind the doorway (to give kids room to swing back and forth.) The other dimensions are the width of the door (must be 25 to 36 inches) and the width of the door frame where it clamps on. If you need longer vice grips (in case yours need to extend a lot more than mine shown in the pic below) you can order them here.

Once the gym is up, you will not be able to close the door to the doorway where it hangs, unless you remove the apparatus.

This isn't only for kids either - with a 300 lb weight limit, my husband or I can swing or do pull ups as well (well okay... I can't actually do a pull up. My 10 year-old can do many however!) Great for burning off energy during those Winter months when it's too cold to go outside!

Valentine's Day Wrapping Paper (Kids' Project)

Monday, February 13, 2017

Here's a quick project you can do with the kids. I love hand made wrapping paper! Fun for Valentine's day, birthdays, Christmas, or any other time you want to make a special gift for someone (just vary the theme/shape). Here's what you need:

Brown Kraft paper (if you have none, the insides of brown paper bags work)
Apples or potatoes. Preferably potatoes. It's too tempting to eat the apples!
Knife for cutting out stamps
Tube Water color paints
thick paint brush or sponge brush
Scissors
Brown twine (string)

First, cut out whatever shape you want from your potato. Spread out some water color and mix in some water on a piece of scrap paper. You want it pretty thick. Paint it onto your potato stamp with your brush. Test out the consistency before stamping on your wrapping paper piece. We alternated two shades of red - a true, brighter red and a more burgundy shade, and I thought the variety looked nice.

Tell kids to try and leave an even amount of space between stamps. After every two or three impressions, dip your stampers into the paint again. Allow ample time to dry completely.
